Katydid Hack – Add a Cap Sleeve

I really, really love this Katydid dress pattern from Rachel at ImagineGnats.  There are so many possibilities! As I mentioned in my previous post, the first thing I decided to do was to add cap sleeves.  As if it wasn’t already cute enough!  Cap sleeves are just about the easiest little “hack”, even for a beginner.  And just look how cute they are: For this tutorial you’ll need a 12-ish inch plate, a marking pen … Continue reading

The Katydid Dress by ImagineGnats

Gratuitous kid picture time:   It’s been a while since I posted any pictures of the kiddos and Erica has grown so much! I know that’s what kids do, but seriously, enough is enough. She is so full of joy and whining and adventurousness and “No’s”, we can barely keep up. Last night I whipped up this cute little dress – the Katydid from Imagine Gnats.  When I say whipped, I mean WHIPPED.  This dress … Continue reading

My blogging cycle

Sometime around mid-year think “Gosh, I really need to update my blog!” (Hey look, it’s mid-year right now!) Blog a few times. Make a commitment to blog at least once a week. Re-neg on that commitment right away. Keep blogging sporadically, but at least once a month. Get busy making projects for holiday gift giving. Realize I can’t blog any of the gifts without giving something away. Give up on blogging until after the winter … Continue reading

Halloween in December

For Halloween this year Caleb decided to be Ash Ketchum from Pokémon XY. Specifically XY. Queue the sewing machine in 3……….2……….1………… For each of the seasons of Pokémon, Ash wears basically the same colors, but the clothes vary slightly.  It’s pretty easy to find an Ash costume for the original series of Pokémon, but XY is newer, less iconic, and therefore more difficult to find. Scratch that, it’s IMPOSSIBLE to find.  Not that I have … Continue reading

100 Quilts 4 Kids!

Welcome to the third stop on the 100 Quilts 4 Kids Bloghop! I recently joined the DC Modern Quilt guild. Each year, the group runs a charity quilt drive called 100 Quilts 4 Kids, the goal of which is to make and donate 100 quilts to a charity that will provide them to kids in need. This year’s fantastic cause is the Carpenter’s Shelter in Alexandria, VA which serves over 1000 homeless children and adults … Continue reading

Strawberry City Blooms Tote

This was SUCH a fun swap.  There were no requirements for what we should make, just that it be handmade, strawberry themed, and something that your partner would like (of course!) At first I didn’t know what to do.  There are just so many options for things to make!  And then I had a problem finding strawberry fabrics that I liked (without having to buy lots of yardage).  I had some of the Heather Ross … Continue reading

Meet: Humphrey

Did you know that Albino Humpback Whales are a thing?  I didn’t. I guess to be more specific I should say, “Did you know that THE Albino Humpback Whale IS a thing?” After all, there is only one: …or is there? Meet Humphrey: I made Humphrey for a sweet little boy who loves the Octonauts.  I saw the pattern on Craftsy and just KNEW that I had to make it for him. It has only … Continue reading

And the bunny ran away with the spoon

Back when I first found out I was pregnant with a little girl, I started thinking about all of the clothes that I was going to make for her over the years. I sorted out patterns, started collecting fabrics, and put aside special buttons and trims. Now I have a baby and a stack of fabrics and patterns as tall as she is, but I don’t want to make anything because “she’ll just grow out … Continue reading

#makeaquiltmakeafriend

I had such fun making this little mini for my partner in the Schnitzel & Boo Mini Quilt Swap!  She said in her interview questions that she loved foxes, and I took that and ran with it. I call him “Foxy” My original plan was to use the cross stitch block pattern by Pile O’ Fabric and the fox pattern by Making Life Prettier, but I wanted Foxy to be smaller and I was just … Continue reading
